Certain metals, such as hexavalent chromium
and technetium-99 are reduced and precipitated in the presence of
iron; whereas other metals are directly precipitated or absorbed
by the iron and thus rendered immobile. Once the metals are precipitated
or absorbed to the iron, the metal is immobilized within the PRB
and will not leach out by flushing with groundwater. The following
list summarizes the metals immobilized in the presence of zero valent
iron. |
